Toyama is located at the coast of Sea of Japan, the prefecture is named Toyama just like the city, it is about 300km away from Tokyo toward the north west. From Tokyo to Toyama it takes about 1 hour by plane or 2 hours by shinkansen (bullet train). The town of Toyama is surrounded by mountains from three sides with a coast. From Toyama, you can find interesting things all year around to see and do, one of these is the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route that on winter has 20 meter of snow around the route. Other amazing sights are the Kurobe Dam which is surrounded by alps and beautiful clean water.

Yuki-no-Otani

At an altitude of 2450m, there is heavy snowfall in this area. The snow accumulates to more than 20m in this valley, making incredible snow walls. The sight of the silvery-white world against the blue sky far overhead is truly impressive.

Mikurigaike

An amazing view symbolizing the landscape of Tateyama, known as one of Japan’s Three Famous Mountains. The beauty of the four seasons is reflected on the surface of the lake creating a splendid sight. An “onsen” is also located nearby, making it a good place to rest for hikers.

Gokayama

This is an area with beautifully preserved “gassho-zukuri” (thatch roof) houses built among the mountains. They include World Heritage sites such as the hamlets of Ainokura and Suganuma. You can also experience the traditional culture like handmade “washi” paper and singing “minyo” (folk songs).

Mount Tate(Tateyama)

A famous mountain that ranks in alongside Mount Fuji and Mount Haku. The beauty the mountains known as the Northern Alps is spectacular. The wide variety of natural environments and the ever changing topography attract people to this place.

Tateyama Station

Tateyama Station is the departure point for a tour of the Tateyama Alpine Route. A cable car is in operation toward Bijodaira. From this point onwards, private automobiles are prohibited with tourists transferring via various modes of transportation such as buses and a ropeway which use green energy to reach tourist sites. There is a general information center within the station.

Bijodaira

Bijodaira is the point of transfer between the Tateyama Cable Car and the Highland Bus. Located on a plateau 1000m high, the vicinity has a lush primeval forest of cedar and broad-leafed trees. A trail is provided on which you can enjoy a 2.5-hour round-trip walk while admiring the wild flora and birds.

Murodo

This is the base for climbing Tateyama with the largest terminal on the Tateyama Alpine Route. The station is completely equipped with restaurants, a tea room and shops. In the vicinity, you can enjoy a walk amid the superb scenery beginning with Lake Mikurigaike. There is also Japan’s highest onsen facility where you can go for a day visit or even stay overnight. And at night, a star-filled sky can be viewed.

Daikanbo Station

Daikanbo Station connects the Tateyama Tunnel Trolley Bus and the Tateyama Ropeway. Jutting out from the steep precipice, the grand panorama of Lake Kurobe and the Ushiro-Tateyama Mountains expands in front of your eyes. The views from the observatory on top of the station and from the ropeway are truly spectacular.

Lake Kurobe

A man-made lake that was created near Kurobe Gorge. In the vicinity, the scenery of the precipitous Tateyama Mountains spreads out. There is a walking trail which takes around 1 hour to traverse and an excursion boat that goes around the lake. You can enjoy the beautiful scene of the lake at a close distance from the boat.
