The scenery of “Japan’s homeland” remaining in the Noto Peninsula can be seen everywhere outside of the train windows
Registered as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System, the natural environment of the Noto Peninsula spreads out everywhere. Traveling leisurely through this gorgeous scenic region is a tourist train known as the Noto Satoyama-Satoumi Train which links the communities of Nanao and Anamizu. With a blue exterior that envisages the ocean around Noto, you board the train which has a fully Japanesque interior thanks to the application of traditional craft and savor the various areas of the lush green mountains, the open blue sea and the scenery of rice paddies which can only be witnessed in Japan. The tranquil scene of Nanao Bay which can be seen particularly from the plateau is a superb view which can only be observed on the Noto Railway. You are able to enjoy leisurely sightseeing while listening to the guide’s commentary within all this scenic beauty (however, the guide only speaks in Japanese although there are English-language leaflets available).
The Yuttari Course which gives you time to enjoy the Noto landscape
The Yuttari Course, which operates on weekends, holidays and some fixed days, takes more time than a regular train and alternately passes through and stops at some of the scenic highlights so that you can thoroughly enjoy the beautiful landscape of Noto. It is only on the Noto Railway from where you can view the ideal scenic spots which include the scaffolding used to fish for mullet which is an ancient fishing method that has been passed down through the generations, the Twin Bridge Noto which links to the small Noto Island with only a population of 3,000 people, and the beautiful fishing village of Fukaura located in a quiet bay. Midway on the ride at Noto-Nakajima Station (there are no runs which end here), the train stops for about 10 minutes and you can take a look at the Oyu 10 which is a postal train from the old days. There are special plans where you can also enjoy the tastes of Noto such as the Sushi Bento Plan in the which the box lunches include fare from famous sushi restaurants from the area, the Sweets Plan which is a dessert set produced by famous patissiers, and the Horoyoi (Tipsy) Plan in which you can enjoy local sake made by Noto’s nationally famous chief brewers. All plans are available on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and some fixed days. Because all of the seats are reserved, please don’t forget to check the most recent conditions and make your reservations by phone or at the Noto Railways website.
