Travel Plan for First Timers in Tokushima

Experience the uzushio whirlpools that have been considered to be one of the world’s three greatest tides up close and personal. Walk through the glass-enclosed walkway over the sea where you can see and hear the enormous tides beneath you.

Walk through the park where you can get the panoramic view of the sea by Naruto. The suspension bridge, Onaruto Bridge, connecting Tokushima and Hyogo Prefectures rises above your eyes, and from the observatory inside the park, you can enjoy the beautiful sight of Naruto Strait.

Enjoy Tokushima ramen for lunch as a local dish popular for “its rich taste that helps the meal along”. There are numerous places serving the dish within the city of Tokushima at areas such as around Tokushima Station so you can visit any of the shops that the locals recommend.

Located near the Awa Odori Kaikan, visit the temple standing in the middle of nature. The garden built to good advantage upon the side of the mountain is famous with the autumn being the most beautiful season.

This is a museum where you can see, hear and feel Awa Odori dancing, a traditional performing art of Tokushima that has a history of 400 years. Awa Odori is famous throughout Japan as a traditional event as all of the towns in the prefecture participate for four days between August 12th and 15th every year. At the Awa Odori Kaikan, you can experience the dance all throughout the year.

Board the ropeway from the 5th floor of the Awa Odori Kaikan and head for the peak of Mt. Bizan. From the top of the mountain, you can enjoy the grand panorama of sea, mountain and city.
