A tourist spot steeped in the profound atmosphere of the Meiji Era
The mark consisting of the kanji for “woods” under a right angle displayed on the red brick warehouse is the official trademark for the old Kanemori Yobutsu-Ten (Western Goods Store). This warehouse which was built in the Meiji Era is operated by Kanemori Shosen Inc. which began as Kanemori Yobutsu-ten. The property has been recognized as a Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings and is also known as a famous tourist site in the city of Hakodate which has been registered as a heritage site in Hokkaido. Enjoy the group of red brick buildings as they are lit up at night creating an all-encompassing magical mood. The elegant warehouse built in the Meiji Era is now being used to house restaurants and a shopping center so that young people are not only enjoying the landscape but they are also delighting in the food and shopping.
4 areas to be enjoyed
Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse is divided into 4 areas. First off, there is BAY Hakodate which includes a canal built in 1882 and has a chapel, a cruising spot and a café. For the illumination at night, this is the place. The Kanemori Yobutsu-kan re-uses the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse which was the launching point for Kanemori Yobutsu-ten as it has a lineup of general goods under the rich theme of Western European lifestyle culture. It is packed with shops with personality and plenty of variety. As well, the Hakodate History Plaza has the popular Hakodate Beer Hall. The experience of drinking beer in this historic warehouse built over 100 years ago is exceptional. There is also a variety of other shops for people to enjoy. And the fourth area of Kanemori Hall is a multi-purpose facility which is used for wedding ceremonies and parties.
