Okazaki Castle

The symbol of Okazaki. This castle is the birthplace of Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first shogun of the Edo Era.

Okazaki Castle was the birthplace of the first shogun of the Edo Era, Ieyasu Tokugawa. He is known as one of the three greatest people of the Warring States period. The five story castle, restored in 1959, was selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Castles. The castle interior has been made into a museum, and all of Okazaki City can be viewed from the observation deck at the top.
