Ultimate Guide to Furano

The popular spots of Biei and Furano are included in this huge carpet of flowers over the great land. The peak period is July but the winter snowscapes are also beautiful. Local buses and trains are available but the best way to tour the area is by rental car or hired car.

A landscape of wheat fields and trees cover the rolling hills. Drive through this tranquil rural landscape and take a break at Hokusei-no-Oka Observatory Park. You can get a panoramic view of scenic Biei. *Please be careful not to enter the farmland and private property while touring. Hokusei-no-Oka Observatory Park is only open between May and October.

Shikisai-no-Oka
From June to August is the peak time to see the flower fields, and during the snowy season from December, you can enjoy a world of silver. Take a walk through the park and try feeding the animals at the Alpaca Farm.

With Japan’s largest lavender field, Farm Tomita boasts a long history of growing the nation’s lavender. The peak season for the lavender blossoms is July. But even in other seasons, many other types of flowers are in bloom and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Furano. *The farm is closed between October and the following May (please check the official website for details).

You can visit this cheese workshop only to be found in Japan’s dairy kingdom of Hokkaido. At the Pizza Workshop, you can sample oven-baked pizza using original cheese. Also, at the adjacent Ice Milk Workshop, there is also ice cream made from local milk. Lunch time is recommended here.
