About

A power spot in the northern Kanto

Haruna Shrine located on the side of Mt. Haruna was built taking advantage of the deep valley and is popular as a notable power spot in the Kanto region. Along the 700m-long sando path leading up to the shrine that is lined with 400-year-old cedar trees, there are features such as the clear waters of the Haruna River and a waterfall. There is also a souvenir shop and a teahouse along the sando so that you can enjoy a leisurely stroll while noshing on some food, and from there to the grounds of the shrine, sculptures of The Seven Gods of Good Fortune can be observed so taking that walk to find them is also enjoyable.

Many Important Cultural Properties at the shrine

There are 6 National Important Cultural Properties at Haruna Shrine. Highlights include the main shrine built next to the huge Mizugata Rock, the front shrine and the main hall consisting of the hall of offerings built in the gongen-style. Within the cave of Mizugata Rock, the object of worship is enshrined. There are also other Important Cultural Properties including Soryu-mon Gate by the cave entrance, the Kagura-den Hall which holds Shinto music and dance performances, and Miyuki-den Hall.

Fantastic rock formations and a townscape of atmosphere

The Yatate cedar tree which has been designated as a National Natural Monument is said to have been to have been the place where military commander Shingen Takeda had prayed for victory before he departed for the front. The interestingly-shaped rock formations within the shrine grounds are also highlights including Mizugata Rock, Tsuzuraore Rock at the back of the shrine, Kuragake Rock which appears as a stone bridge, and Nuboko Rock which is alternately known as Candle Rock. In Shake-cho Town which is located by the gate of Haruna Shrine, there are also priests’ quarters which are nationally-registered Tangible Cultural Properties, and you can enjoy a walk through the atmospheric townscape while visiting the shrine.
