Ultimate Guide to Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route

Take the cable car leaving Tateyama Station and head for Bijodaira. During the 7-minute ride, enjoy the beautiful scenery at the foot of Mt. Tateyama. *The walk on the Alpine Route can be enjoyed easily but because of the 3000m highlands, it is recommended that clothing that can respond to changes in the weather and shoes appropriate for trekking be worn.

After arriving at Bijodaira, switch to the Tateyama Highland bus to go to Murodo. There are many transfers on the Alpine Route. Please check boarding times at every point so as not to be late.

This is the highest station in Japan. After arriving at Murodo, go on a trekking tour. The 1-hour course around Mikurigaike Lake is recommended. At Murodo Terminal, there are restaurants and a rooftop observation area so it’s great to take a break here while admiring Mother Nature on Mt. Tateyama.

This is a lake located at the 2405m point which has been called “God’s Kitchen”. It is known within Tateyama tourism as the most famous scenery of the area. There is a trail going around Mikurigaike where you can enjoy a 1-hour trek. Following the walk, have lunch at Murodo.

Ride the Kurobe Cable Car and get off at Lake Kurobe which is known as Japan’s highest lake. While taking in the view of the lake, walk over to Kurobe Dam.

The massive and most famous dam in Japan, you can enjoy the view of the Northern Japan Alps from the large observatory and even see the dynamic release of water. Take a walk along the trail and then have tea at the rest house. *The release of water is limited to the period between June 26th and October 15th. After touring Kurobe Dam, take the same route as you came to return to Tateyama Station (arrival at 5:30). Otherwise, you can ride the Kanden Tunnel Trolley Bus and get off at Ogizawa Station to head for Nagano.
