Kawagoe Castle had been constructed in 1457 but the Honmaru Goten was built in 1848 as the residence for the lord of the castle. The lifestyle of the castle from those days can be glimpsed through places such as the reception hall and the office of the chief retainer. The current building is only 1/8th of the former castle area so the surviving Honmaru Goten is considered to be extremely valuable in Japan. The castle has been selected as one of the Top 100 Castles in Japan.
