About

Southern Sado, rich in sightseeing sites such as historic landmarks and ocean views

In the vicinity of Ogi Port situated in the south of the island, there are numerous highlights for Minami-Sado (southern Sado). Along with the highlight of Shukunegi which has retained its beautiful townscape from the glory days of shipping in the Edo Era, there are spots rich in culture and history such as Sadokoku Ogi Folk Museum which displays a restored sengokubune ship, along with the Yajima Exchange Center and Rikiya Tourism Shipping where you can try out the tarai bune fishing boats which originated on Sado. With plenty of marine sports as well, the Ogi Diving Center is nearby where you can enjoy sea kayaking and diving. The Sado Island Taiko Center which is run by the internationally active Taiko drumming troupe is also recommended for being able to try your hand at striking the wadaiko drums. You can enjoy sightseeing on Sado centering on Minami-Sado through a tour of ancient temples such as Rengebu-ji and Kaicho-ji, beautiful Sobama Beach where you can catch a sunset on good-weather days, Nishimikawa Gold Park to search for gold, and the Sado Historical Legend Museum and Obata Sake Brewery in the historic Mano area.

Transportation routes to tourist destinations from Ogi Port

Rental car is the most convenient way to tour around Sado.

For rental car service, you can go to the general information center on the 2nd floor of the Sado Kisen Terminal. Advance reservations are preferred although it is possible to rent a car if one is available on the day of your visit.

Although the number of runs is limited, taking the bus is also fun.

The economical Freepass which can be used on regular buses can be purchased at Niigata Kotsu which can be found immediately to your right once you leave the terminal.

The Yajima Exchange Center, Ogi Diving Center, Shukunegi, Sadokoku Ogi Folk Museum and other facilities are all near the port, so electrically-powered bicycles called Eco-Da-Chari are recommended to get around the area.

Rental cycle service is handled at the Ogi Tourism Information Center. The center is located 4 minutes away on foot from Ogi Port Terminal on the left side of the large avenue with the terminal behind you. At the information center, you can receive a map, pamphlets, a bus schedule and other information as a source of tourist information for the Ogi area.
