These are caves that originated from a lava flow due to Mt. Fuji’s eruption in 864. At Narusawa Ice Cave, you can view natural icicles formed from the freezing water droplets that trickled from the ceiling. Appropriate clothing is advised since the cave interior is also cold in summer. A simple lunch is recommended at the shop after your tour.
Trees grew over the lava that had flowed due to the eruption of Mt. Fuji, creating a vast primeval forest. Even now, lava rock can be seen in spots and you can observe the mystery of the trees that have grown on it. It’s important that you keep to the fixed walking trails because of the extreme danger from getting lost.
