Visit the World Heritage site of Itsukushima Shrine with the mysterious red torii gate that stands in the middle of the sea. After arriving at Miyajima Island, it takes about 10 minutes on foot to reach the shrine.
Walk over to Daigan-ji Temple which is right next to the exit for Itsukushima Shrine. Normally entry into the temple buildings isn’t possible, so you can only walk on the temple grounds. The temple is known for the enshrined gods of scholarship, art and performing arts.
Visit Senjokaku which is known to be the largest building on the island. Its construction had been ordered by the 16th-century shogun Hideyoshi Toyotomi but the project was never completed although you can see the remains of the architecture.
