Fukui Castle Ruins

These castle ruins retain the old-fashioned atmosphere through the stone walls and the moat. The area is particularly brilliant during the season of cherry blossoms.

First built in 1606, the area around Fukui Castle once flourished due to the Echizen-Matsudaira clan. At the time, the famous castle had a height of 37m and a castle tower with four levels and five floors, but it was burned down in a great fire. Currently, the prefectural government offices are built on the site with the surviving stone walls and moat showing what it was like back in the day.
