Afternoon Plan for Shimoda

Head for Ryugu Sea Cave with its mysterious blue waters exposed by a large natural skylight. You can enjoy the mysterious scenery from the beautiful sea and rock cave as you walk along the established trail. Take the bus bound for Touji from Shimoda Station to head to the cave and get off at Maenohama. Then it is just a 3-minute walk before reaching the cave.

This is a natural site formed from sand blown onto the area by the winds. You can enjoy sliding down the 30-degree slope by sled. Sleds can be rented for a price at the nearby inn and then enjoyed on the white sands. You can also savor a walk along the seashore next to the very clear blue ocean.

Get on the bus again to return to Shimoda Station and spend a leisurely time around the station area. The city is also known for its fine-quality onsen. There are many hot springs which can be enjoyed on a day trip without needing to stay overnight. There is also a free footbath at the station so that only your feet can also get that onsen feeling.
