Omihachiman

Located on the eastern side of Lake Biwa, this is the town where the Omi merchants first appeared and flourished from the Middle Ages to early modern times. Tour the town through the Hachimanbori canal constructed in the 16th century that links it to the lake. A very rich atmosphere continues through sites such as the historical shops, merchant houses and the earthen-walled storehouses.
