Shiga 1 Day Itinerary (Omihachiman, Hachimanbori, Himure Hachiman-gu Shrine,Hikone Castle,Genkyu-en Garden)

Visit the National Treasure of Hikone Castle which has retained its beautiful appearance even after surviving the destruction of numerous wars. In the morning, drop by Omihachiman close by the castle which was a town of Edo Era merchants, and enjoy the neighborhood of old merchant houses and a riverside tour by boat.

Built during the Warring States period in the 16th century, this canal was the start of the development of commerce linking the town and Lake Biwa leading to the success of the area. Currently, Hachimanbori can be enjoyed for its riverside tours by boat. *There are only 2 boat rides per day at 10am and 3pm.

This is a shrine with an ancient history that was said to have been built in the year 131 A.D. It has been worshiped as the guardian deity for the Omi merchants who became famous all throughout Japan for their philosophy of satisfying the seller, the buyer, and society. Visit the majestic main shrine standing in the middle of Mother Nature. There are also cafés and restaurants nearby where you can take a break for lunch.
