Night Plan in Kyoto

Have dinner in Ponto-cho where cafés and restaurants are found along the Kamogawa River. There are many kinds of establishments serving Kyoto cuisine and sukiyaki along with fare such as French and Italian dishes. If you go with a restaurant that has a view of the river, you can get an even better feeling of the atmosphere of Kyoto.

Head for Gion Shirakawa, a spot popular for its beautiful ancient scenery within the district of Gion. On the lane along the river, you can see the traditional buildings of Kyoto with the nighttime illumination further enhancing the area’s beauty.

Stroll along Hanami Koji which is known as the district of geisha and maiko (apprentice geisha). The cobblestone street continues from Shijo Street southwards where you can enjoy the Kyoto-esque atmosphere via the ryotei restaurants, teahouses and Japanese-style cafés.

A distinctive row of houses that stands apart due to the stone walls and brick walls. On either side, there are ryokan, ryotei and tea shops, and at night, you can feel the nostalgia through the dimly-lit lights.

Head for the center of Gion. Filled with plenty of dining establishments, enjoy a meal and a drink at places including izakayas, bars and wine bars.
