7 Best hot springs in Gifu

In the middle of the Honshu main island, the prefecture of Gifu can be found, with the City Gifu as its capital it is the centre of Japan. Its location plays a big part in its rich history, combined with the beautiful nature Gifu has to offer, it is truly one of the places that you should not miss when travelling through Japan. Not only that, Gifu is also known for their onsen. Gifu is the home of one of the most famous onsen in Japan, Gero Onsen. Nagaragawa Onsen


About a 30 minute trip from Nagoya, along the river of the Nagara gawa (river) there are seven ryokans and hotels with their own unique styles and concepts. The ryokans and hotels have their own onsens that can be used when staying overnight or during the day only. There is the Gifu Grand Hotel, Usho no Ie Sugiyama, the Ishikin- Ryokan, the Gifu Miyako Hotel, the Hotel Park, Kinka, and Juhachiro.

Ozone Onsen Yunoshiro


This bath house has 12 types of baths to choose from. Among these are for example a rock bath that has a rustic and luxurious atmosphere, or try the highly concentrated oxygen bath that will rejuvenate one's beauty health. Also worthy to try is the bath that contains milky white water which will leave your skin silky smooth and bright. Furthermore, there are outdoor baths, a sauna, massage services, and a cold water bath as well. The bath house has their own restaurant with delicious food worth trying after your bath to make your onsen experience the perfect one! The bath house is a 5 minute walk from JR Ozone station's South exit.

Kitanoyu Rokujo Onsen


Kitanoyu Rokujo Onsen has several onsen baths,  hot stone saunas, a cold bath and offers massage services as well. After bathing there are several relaxing areas and game corners to relax or eat a snack at. The building comes with a restaurant with simple but inexpensive dishes as well.

To get to Kitanoyu Rokujo Onsen you take the E13 bus from Gifu Station that goes to Higashigusa and get off at Higashigusa. From there it is a 15 minute walk to the bath house.

Mitahora Shinbutsu Onsen


This onsen has a few baths to enjoy, among which are so-called red bath with water that is high in iron and carbonate and a white water bath that is good for the skin and health. The bath house recommends you bringing your own bath towel and soap, though they sell these items too. To reach the Mitahora shinbutsu onsen you take the Gifu bus takatomi line and get off at Mitahora. There you transfer onto the Miwakko bus and get off at Mitahora Shinbutsu Onsen.
