The best accessible beaches around the Tokyo Area

Tokyo and the areas around Tokyo are not known for their beaches and people do not really go to Tokyo for beaches, but when the weather is warm it might be nice to go to one of the few beaches near Tokyo to spend a day there. No matter if you want to lay in the sun, swim, do some beach games, or go to the “Umi no le” (beach restaurant/café/bar) and have a beer or one of the Japanese beach treats like cold yakisoba or kakigori (shaved ice topped with flavored syrup). There is usually only a limited time when it is ok to swim at the beaches. Here are few beaches in and around Tokyo.

Odaiba Beach

In Tokyo at the manmade island of Odaiba there is a 800-meter long sand beach, the sand having being brought from Izu Island. Unfortunately, it is not allowed to swim at the water, because of the bad quality of the water. But you can sunbath and enjoy other beach activities here. Also, it is bit different to see a city view from a beach.

5min walk from Odeiba station, both Rinkai Line metro and the Yrikamome monorail go over to Odeiba.
