About

An aquarium which is the world’s largest in the kinds of penguins

The aquarium boasts the abundant presence of 9 of the 18 species of penguin which live on the Earth. Starting with the smallest penguin in the world, the Little Penguin, you can encounter the other 8 species at the aquarium: Gentoo, King, Cape, Chinstrap, Humboldt, Rockhopper, Macaroni and the Magellanic Penguin. 70% of the 180 penguins here have been raised at the aquarium which has been highly praised for its breeding prowess and handling technique.

Lots of events such as the Penguin Parade and penguin feeding

The penguin pool has a depth of up to 4m so it’s very adorable to see penguins swimming as if they were soaring through the sky. On weekends and holidays, there are plenty of events such as the feeding of the penguins by divers in the water, a petting event where you can touch Humboldt Penguins and even try feeding them. However, the most popular event is the King Penguin Parade. From the end of November to the beginning of May, a parade is held at Penguin Park in which 15 penguins cutely walk around; the park is also known as the place where the penguin parade first originated in Japan. And on weekends and holidays from 11:30, the Backyard Tour which can only admit the first 15 pairs of visitors is popular for being able to get a glimpse of the back of the aquarium which is usually off limits to visitors.

Observing penguins residing on a unique natural beach and the virtual theater

At the Petting Penguin Beach by Tachibana Bay in front of the aquarium, you can observe the sight of 10 Humboldt Penguins spending time freely on the sandy beach and in the sea which is the first display of its type in the world. The 160-inch virtual theater lets you see the drawings of penguins and fish that you have made swim across the screen. This makes use of the latest 3D technology so that you will be delighted and surprised by the fish that you have colored in popping up on the screen.
