Zenko-ji Temple

Zenko-ji Temple
First head for the 1400-year-old Zenko-ji Temple. One highlight is the National Treasure Main Hall which is one of the largest in Japan. Since the Edo Era, there has been a saying “One must pray at Zenko-ji once in a lifetime”, and even now it has gained deep worship from visitors from all over the country. You can also enjoy shopping in the temple town extending from Nagano Station to the temple.

Jigokudani Monkey Park

Jigokudani Monkey Park
Journey to Jigokudani Monkey Park which has become famous all over the world for the sight of monkeys going into the hot springs. You can see wild monkeys spending a carefree time in the Jigokudani environment. Have lunch before going to the park since there are restaurants and cafés around the entrance. *With the mating season for the monkeys being October and November, it’s possible that they cannot be seen during that time. Also, after mid-November, the roads will be slippery due to snow so wearing appropriate shoes is advised.

Shibu Onsen

Shibu Onsen
This onsen village has existed for 1300 years. You can enjoy the old cobblestone town while staying overnight or coming in just for a day visit. In addition, the “Kyu-to Meguri” (tour of nine bath houses) offered only to overnight visitors at Shibu Onsen is popular. Dinner there is also great since there are many restaurants including izakaya and ramen shops.
