About

Basics about climbing Mt. Fuji

Mt. Fuji can be climbed only for two months from July 10 to September 10 while it is open to climbers. During this period, more than 200,000 people from across Japan come to Mount Fuji and start out on their climb toward the peak. While this period is optimal for safe climbing by beginners, never underestimate the dangers of climbing Mt. Fuji since, after all, it is the highest mountain in Japan. Always check the weather report; if rain or thunder is predicted, it is the best to cancel your plans to climb/descend the mountain. The elevation of the area around the peak of Mount Fuji is 3,776 meters; the difference in elevation between this point and the climbing entrance at Gogome (the fifth stage) is between 1,000 to 2,000 meters and the difference in temperature between these points is about 10 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature at the peak and its vicinity is below freezing even in summer. Make sure to take measures against cold temperatures as climbers may suffer hypothermia while waiting for the sun to rise because temperatures before the sunrise are considerably low. Climbers must also be cautious and protect themselves against altitude sickness.

Good morning mr Fuji
The climb up to mt.Fuji was pretty rough and took almost a day, specially if you are not in the best of shapes as some of my friends, but it is totally worth it. It is beautiful the see Fuji and how the area and view started to change a lot the further up you went. We had to rest for couple of hours in a hut, because it was so dark. One we continued we got up just in the time to see the sunrise and it was breath taking and anyone who can should climb up mt Fuji.

One of the best experiences of my life!
Climbing Mount Fuji is amazing. Even though when I climbed it was slightly off season and snowing near the top, I had the most enjoyable experience. I stayed in a mountain hut and got to see the most stunning sunrise I have ever seen. It was worth ever second. The proverb about climbing to the top of Mount Fuji only once is perhaps true, however, I will happily climb it again, halfway, just to get the exhilarating feeling of standing above the clouds. Two priceless experiences that can be completed in half a day.
