About

A farm with a lovely view of the Kirishima Mountains

Located at the foot of the grand Kirishima Mountains on the border of Miyazaki and Kagoshima Prefectures, Takachiho Farm covers a large 78ha. 100 heads of cattle, 30 sheep and 5 horses live on this sightseeing farm where you can pet the animals in a beautiful area surrounded by mountains. Takachiho is also popular with the kids with plenty of sights to see and various experiences to enjoy. There are also numerous souvenirs on tap including dairy goods such as cheese and butter, and meats such as ham and sausage, and you can also dine at the well-regarded restaurant serving delicious meals such as Korean BBQ, Jingisukan BBQ and curry.

Meet up with animals galore such as cows and sheep

The Fureai Plaza is a place where you can spend leisurely on the wide expanse of grass running or rolling around while viewing the grand Kirishima Mountains. The most popular soft-serve ice cream is recommended at the shop. At the Animal Petting Zoo, you can directly touch calves and lambs. You can also take a look into the Cattle Barn where you can encounter three different species of cow: Jerseys, Guernseys and Holsteins, and observe the milking process through the milking machines. There is also a rearing stall which you can enter to see calves between 4 and 20 months old. And you can also take a tour of the milk factory where you can find out how the milk we drink every day is produced.

Milking, horse riding and workshops galore

There are various workshops open during the weekends and holidays among which there are the twice-daily milking seminars with the dairy cows, horse riding workshops aimed at kids aged from 3 years to early elementary school, and classes for making sausages, ice cream and butter, so please check out the homepage for scheduled times. Any of the classes can sometimes be held during the weekdays so please check the calendar for them also. Except for the milking seminars, reservations by telephone have to be made 3 days in advance.
