Giou-ji is an ancient temple with a quiet atmosphere surrounded by a bamboo forest and maple trees. The moss-covered garden is beautiful. When the dancer Giou fell out of favor with the powerful Taira-no-Kiyomori, she fled the capital; the temple has since become famous for this tale of tragic love.
