Nison-in Temple is located in the area of Sagano, once a villa area for the Heian nobility and was established in the 9th century on the order of Emperor Saga. The sando path which stretches out beyond the main gate has been called the Koyo-no-Baba (The Horse-Riding Ground of the Autumn Colors), and in November, there is a splendid display of the fall leaves.
