How to get tickets and how much do they cost?
The tickets to the Ghibli museum are not sold from the door and need few special steps to get. The tickets must be reserved beforehand for a specific time and date. You can buy the tickets from overseas or from Japan, but unless you are staying in japan over a month you should get the tickets from your home country because the ticket go on sale in Japan on the first of the month for the next month and the ticket sell out really fast. The ticket cost 1000 Yen for adults, 700 Yen for Students, 400 Yen for Elementary School students and 100 yen for children (4-7 years).
Overseas

Japan
In Japan, the tickets can be bought from Lawson convince stores, the next months tickets go on sale every 10th of the month and as mentioned already many times they sell out really fast so for most travelers the overseas option is more valid. How to get there?
The Ghibli museum is located near the Mitaka station. You can take the JR Chuo Line from Shinjuku Station or Tokyo station it takes around 20 - 30 minutes depending on which stop you get on, cost of the train ride is from Shinjuku 220 yen and from Tokyo station 390 yen. Once you are at the Mitaka Station you need to take the South Exit and walk along the Tamagawa Josui “Waterworks” for about 15 minutes to get to the museum. You can also take the bus from Mitaka Station to the museum, which costs for adults 320 Yen for round-trip and 210 yen for a one-way ticket and for children 160 yen for round-trip and 110 yen for one-way ticket.
