A park enjoyed throughout the year for its flowers and light
Oishi Park which is located on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko is popular as a scenic spot where you can get a panoramic view of the lake and Mt. Fuji. On good-weather days, the park is swarming with photographers taking shots of the lake and flowers with Japan’s famous mountain in the background. The 350m-long Flower Street shows off its seasonal blossoms starting with tulips in late April along with moss phlox and lavender, then kokia in late October. In the summer, there is the Flower Niagara at a length of 130 and a height of 3m and in the winter, there is the wondrous illumination at night so that tourists can enjoy themselves throughout the year.
The major event of the Kawaguchiko Herb Festival
Oishi Park is synonymous with summer at Lake Kawaguchiko and is the symbolic spot to appreciate lavender. From late June for about 1 month, the entire shore of the lake holds the Kawaguchiko Herb Festival. With Yagisaki Park being the main venue, Oishi Park is the sub-venue where the entire area blossoms with up to 100,000 lavender flowers so that the whole lake region is enswathed in the lovely scent of herbs. Oishi Park is the location where lavender fields can be seen with Lake Kawaguchiko and Mt. Fuji in the background so that it has become a popular photo spot selected as one of the Top 100 Views To See Mt. Fuji in the Kanto Region. In early July, the Mt. Fuji-Lake Kawaguchi Yamabiraki Fireworks Festival is held to honor the season opening of Mt. Fuji to climbers by shooting up magnificent fireworks.
