About

A 5000-exhibit collection uniting art and the contemporary

Opened in 1995, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo is one of the Japan’s largest art museums with a total floor space of approximately 33,300 m² spanning from a 2nd underground floor to the 3rd floor. Aiming to introduce contemporary art and realizing plans for an international outlook, this Tokyo art museum consists of a permanent display of about 5000 exhibits focused on a contemporary art collection. Along with the MOT collection of permanent displays showing the flow of domestic and international arts after a year of 1945, there are also special exhibitions of a wide range of contemporary art including paintings, sculptures, fashion, architecture and design. The MOT collection is divided into 3 or 4 sessions per year with a theme attached to each session and 100-200 exhibits chosen and displayed each time. In addition, in the art library, you can glance at approximately 250,000 specialized books and other materials.
