Kōryū-ji Temple

Built in 603, it is the oldest temple in Kyoto. The wooden statue of Bodhisattva that was created at the time of the temple’s foundation and was enshrined as the principal object of worship is a precious Buddhist statue that became Japan’s first National Treasure. Beginning with the statue of Bodhisattva in Reihoden Hall, precious cultural assets including 20 National Treasures can be viewed.
