A regional confection of Kumamoto that has been handed down over the ages. Sliced sweet potatoes and sweet bean paste are wrapped in a skin made from flour and then steamed. The name of ikinari dango or “sudden dumplings” originates from the ease that they can be whipped up quickly when visitors suddenly come calling.
