A shopping area of a string of log houses
Hokkaido’s Furano is a city of sights to see from the lavender in summer to the skiing in winter, and Ningle Terrace is a shopping area located in a forest next to the New Furano Prince Hotel. “Ningle” refers to a 15cm-tall character known as The Wise Man of the Forest in a book of the same title written by So Kuramoto, famous for the popular drama “Kita no Kuni kara” (From the North Country), and the shopping area was created based on the writer’s ideas. The craft shops and cafes under a nature theme provide quite the warm atmosphere. There are also places like craft workshops on a reservation system where kids and adults alike can create things. The atmosphere of the log houses expresses itself in different ways depending on the season, but the nighttime illumination is exceptionally romantic. While walking through the forest, how about looking for those interesting items?
Sightseeing spots around Ningle Terrace
Ningle Terrace is located in the forest of New Furano Prince Hotel, but there are also popular sightseeing spots in the surrounding area as well. They are all very accessible so you will all want to check them out. First, there is the Furano Dorama Kan (Furano Drama Center). Original products are sold there which include items from the drama “Kita no Kuni kara” by author So Kuramoto who also produced Ningle Terrace. You can also enjoy freshly-ground coffee at counter seats in the café that made an appearance in another drama “Yasashii Jikan” (A Tender Time). There are also plenty of facilities where the family can spend an entire day such as ski resorts with high-quality powder snow that can only be found in Furano, onsen, bars and restaurants.
