7 day Rail pass and lodging

Hi. Im travelling in November with 2 adults and 2 teenagers and will fly in to Osaka. Since we get there at 845 Pm I decided that we will go to Kyoto and stay the next two nights in Kyoto and afterwards got to Tokyo. I am planning on doing a whole day tour of Kyoto on the 9th and on the 10th will do a day trip to Nara and afterwards head to Tokyo that evening. While in Tokyo I will do day tips like maybe Mt. Fuji and Hitachi seaside park the next day. On the 13th will be heading back to Osaka . Is it worth it to get a 7 day Rail pass with this itenerary? Also I would like your advise about lodging in these two cities which is closer to the train station. Thank you for your time.

Hi Nhydge,

My best recommendation is that you take a look at this article: JR Pass (Japan Rail Pass) - Everything you need to know

https://planetyze.com/en/japan/tokyo/blog/jr-pass-japan-rail-pass-everything-you-need-to-know
There they explain who should buy the JR pass, who shouldn't and there's a video detailing everything too.

But in my own personal opinion, it seems like you'll be using the Shinkansen only 2 times, right? If so, then you don't need the JR pass. But if you use it maybe 3 or 4 times, then it is definitely worth it!

I hope this helps!

With the round trip, plus the side trips to the Hitachi Seaside Park and Mt Fuji (either to Hakone, up to Odawara, or the Fuji 5 Lakes up to Otsuki), yes, it would pay off.
