Our favourite way to get to Yokohama from Tokyo varies depending on whether you plan to leave from Tokyo station or Shibuya station. If you’re coming from Tokyo we recommend you use the JR Tokaido Line, but you can also take the JR Yokosuka Line or the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line from Tokyo Station. The trip takes about 25 to 30 minutes and will cost you 470 yen.

If you happen to be in Shibuya, you’re in luck! We recommend you take the Tokyu Toyoko Line from Shibuya station. This is actually the cheapest way to travel from Tokyo to Yokohama and will set you back a mere 270 yen! Just make sure you get on either the limited express or express and you will be in Yokohama in little more than 30 minutes! The cherry on top? There are no extra fees for boarding the limited express train!

The Quickest Way from Tokyo to Yokohama
The quickest way to get to Yokohama from Tokyo will depend on whether you want to go to Yokohama station or Shin-Yokohama station.

The quickest route would be by Shinkansen. All Tokaido-Shinkanse trains will stop at Shin-Yokohama station. From Shin-Yokohama you can either get on the JR Yokohama line or take the subway to Yokohama Station. A Shinkansen ride from Tokyo to Shin-Yokohama will take about 18 minutes and fares start at 1,360 yen for a non-reservation seat.

The cheapest way to get to Yokohama station from Tokyo will be to take the Tokyu Toyoko line from Shibuya station, the 30 minute train journey costing you 270 yen. However, if you are leaving from Tokyo station, you should just take the JR Tokaido line straight to Yokohama as there is no point in switching trains at Shibuya seeing that the travel fare from Tokyo station to Shibuya is 200 yen, effectively cancelling out the cost difference between the two options.
