Using the cold clean waters of Nikko along with soybeans and sugar and mixed in with agar jelly that has been made into a paste and hardened, yokan is a traditional wagashi (Japanese sweet) that has been adored by all those who have been worshiping at Tōshō-gū since the Edo Era. There are a lot of long-standing yokan shops in Nikko Monzen-machi.
