Sasamaki anpu is a wagashi (Japanese confection) that uses namafu (wheat starch), an ingredient with a history as it was brought over by a Chinese monk. The manju with sweet bean paste wrapped in a bun made with the namafu and yomogi (mugwort) is very popular for its soft and chewy texture.
