This is a garden that shows the grace and brilliance of the Momoyama Era that was built in the 17th century. At the Kokin-Denju-no-Ma teahouse which looks over the most beautiful part of the garden, you can take a break with some matcha tea and Japanese sweets.
Walk over to Suizenji Ezuko park from Suizen-ji Jōju-en along the river. You can enjoy a variety of activities including nature walks, boating and a rental bicycle tour of the lake which has very clear underground water.
The largest shopping arcade in Kumamoto Prefecture. From dusk, it becomes very lively with the local people. There are plenty of restaurants and bars so you can sample the local brew and dishes.
