Looking back upon the gaiety of a more refined age as a poetry competition is recreated within a scene rolling out like a Heian picture scroll at Motsu-ji Temple

Japanese poetry is composed before a floating sake cup comes down a brook created in a yarimizu garden. The Gokusui-no-En is an elegant party to celebrate the writing of poetry of the time as participants are garbed in the gorgeous wear of the Heian nobility.
