About

A 360-degree panoramic unobstructed view

Mt. Haigamine is located in the northern part of Kure City. Since there are no other tall mountains in the vicinity, there is an unobstructed 360-degree view. Although the mountain is relatively low, there is a feeling of altitude as it overlooks the sea with its crossing ships and the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, and on a clear day, you can even see as far as the Shikoku Mountains. The summit can be reached on foot or by car.

A night viewing spot that has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Nightscapes

Facing south, there is the night view of the city of Kure and the Seto Inland Sea beyond it, but if the weather is good, you can also get a night view of the city of Hiroshima off to the northwest 20km away. It’s popular with couples as a romantic spot, and if they happen to see the Japanese characters for Kure popping up within the lights of the nightscape, then it’s said that the couples will surely stay together. You can also view the annual Kaijo Fireworks Festival from the summit. Because there is no public transit in Kure, if getting to the mountain by car is difficult, using the Travel Taxi sponsored by the Tourist Information Plaza for its Nightscape Course is recommended.

Easy access to the summit by climbing or driving

With the summit of Mt. Haigamine not being that high at 737m, it can be reached from downtown Kure by car in about 20-30 minutes, so you can enjoy a tour of the city along with that climb or drive up the mountain. If you decide to climb, it will take an hour to go from Haigamine Tosan Guchi to the top. The 17.4-hectare Haigamine Park is located to the north of Mt. Haigamine near Mt. Otsumi, and if going down the southern face, there is also Mt. Ozora Park which is known as a famous area for cherry blossoms on 1200 trees, so the area is also admired as a rich region of nature near the city.
