Our favourite way to get to Hirioshima from Tokyo is aboard the Nozomi Shinkansen. The Nozomi will take you from Tokyo Station to Hiroshima Station directly in 4 hours. The regular non-reserved seat costs 18,040 yen and you will have to pay more if you wish a reserved seat or a place in the green class (first class).Beware Japan Rail Pass holders, the JR Pass cannot be used on Nozomi bullet trains!

The quickest way to get to Hirioshima from Tokyo is either by air or by Shinkansen.By air there are a number of direct flights connecting Tokyo and Hiroshima every day. Fares vary a lot but as a rule of thumb the earlier you book the cheaper the tickets will be. Keep an eye out for discount tickets and Low-Cost Carriers and you may be in for a bargain! And don’t forget that, out of Tokyo’s two main airports, Haneda and Narita, Haneda is the closest to Tokyo centre. From Hiroshima Airport you will need to take a 45 minute bus ride into town. The bus ride will cost you 1,340 yen so keep that in mind when planning your trip. The flight only takes around 90 minutes but, when taking into consideration transport to and from the respective airports, the actual duration of the trip will be closer to 3 or 4 hours. By Shinkansen, you can go all the way to Hiroshima from Tokyo station without having to transfer. The Nozomi bullet train will take you from Tokyo station to Hiroshima station in 4 hours and will cost you 18,040 yen for a non-reserved seat. Japan Rail Pass holders can use their passes to board the Hikari or Kodama Shinkansens from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima. However, the pass will not be accepted on the Nozomi Shinkansen. Puratto Kodama Economy Shinkansen deal
There is a Kodama Shinkansen special deal for more than 2 passengers who wish to purchase round-trip tickets. This special offer will cost each passenger 12,680 yen for the return ticket, and gets them a seat on board the Kodama bullet train. The Kodama bullet train takes between 2h45min and 3 hours to complete the journey. Seishun 18 ticket
Also, if you want to go to Hiroshima using local train services, the 5 and a half hour journey will set you back 5,620 yen. We would only recommend this route to JR Pass holders and Seishun 18 ticket holders.
