Day trip or overnight in Nara?

I have a question for people who’ve visited Nara.I’ll be visiting Kyoto in the fall and would like to visit Nara too as it's next to Kyoto and seems easy to get to by myself. What I’d like to know is if a day trip will be enough time to see the main sights, or if I need to plan an overnight trip.

It depends on how much you want to see in Nara. A day trip will be fine to just see the major sites in central Nara likeTodaiji, Nara Park, Tofukuji and Kasha Shrine.
But if you want to see sites that aren't in central Nara like Horyuji, Toshodaiji and Yakushiji, then you should spend the night.I suppose it also depends on how much extra time you have after planning your sightseeing in Kyoto.
