Top Hot Springs (Onsen) in Aomori

Aomori is famous for apples, it's Nebuta festival, and for its numerous hot springs. Below are some of the top hot springs that you can visit while in Aomori.

Sukayu Hot Springs 

Sukayu Hot Springs is famous for its “1000 person bath”, a huge bathing area where people of both genders can enjoy the hot spring at the same time.

Kuroishi Hot Springs Region

Kuroishi Hot Springs is an area actually made up of 6 hot springs, Nuruyu Hot Springs, Ochiai Hot Springs, Itadome Hot Springs, Aoni Hot Springs, Ogawara Hot Springs, and Choji Hot Springs .

Asamushi Hot Springs

Located in Mutsu Bay, this hot spring is just 20 minutes away by train from Aomori Station.

Shimofuro Hot Springs 

Located on Shimokita Peninsula, the northernmost point of Japan’s main island (Honshu), it's a small remote town. However, it's been a well-known hot spring since around 500 years ago.

Directions From JR Aomori station, take the Tohoku Honsen to JR Noheji station (45 min or 30 min by express train), and then get on the Ohminato line to Shimokita station. Finally, get on the bus (Shimokita Kotsu, Sai line) bound for Mutsu and get off at Shimofuro Onsen (75 min)
